Although I love diamonds as much as any other woman, I do believe that the most memorable presents are the ones that are personalised and especially made for you. Therefore I was intrigued to discover Rose Desgranges fragrance. It’s far more than a perfume- it’s a love story waiting to be told…
Rose was only 16 years old when she moved to Paris in order to find work and support her family in 1940. Abandoning her dream of becoming a pianist, she answered a small ad and became an apprentice to a renowned hair stylist and wig-maker at the Figaro Club located on the first floor of 70, Rue du Faubourg St. Honore, opposite the Elysee Palace.
The Figaro Club belonged to Albert Meyer, a hair stylist popular with the Faubourg’s most elegant ladies. Stunningly beautiful, Rose Desgranges filled the salon with her bright spirit and soon enough Albert fell head over heels in love and married her.
Now here is the twist- instead of offering her a gemstone, Albert, a trained chemist, concocted a fragrance as a love tribute in the laboratory in his cellar using exclusive, handpicked raw ingredients. Defying all trends, the fragrance embodies everything that Rose represents for him: assured femininity, elegance and effortless style…
Head notes: Rose, Bergamot, Mandarin
Heart notes: Ambrette, Jasmine, Iris
Base notes: Vanilla Absolute, Musk, Patchouli, Oak moss
Only one original bottle of Rose Desgranges exists to this day. Dating from 1961, it was designed by master-glassmaker and still carries its original label depicting the statue in its alcove that adorns the inner courtyard at the legendary, prestigious address in Paris. The Eau de Parfum is now available in 3 sizes and comes in a minimalist bottle designed in the style of the era. There is also a beautifully scented candle to enchant your home with this glamorous 50’s aroma.
